"Right of Way" between Edwards Field and Mill Close

It is almost 12 months now since the "Right of Way" between Edwards Field and Mill Close has been closed. We have been petitioning Powys County Council  via their councilors to have the Right of Way re-opened. We are told that the matter is now in the hands of Powys County Council Solicitors.

 "Lindsay Leg Club"

Northside Residents Association has been assisting  Community Nurses Sharon Nutting and Melissa Pugh to establish a "Lindsay Leg Club" The nearest club is in Llanidloes and has become very popular, with many Newtown people travelling to Llanidloes for treatment. Anyone with leg problems may attend, no appointments needed. The club will be held in Mill Close Meeting Hall Newtown every Wednesday from 9-12 am  commencing the 2nd March 2011. Should anyone have the time to help, meet/greet, make tea/coffee etc.we would be most grateful.

Achievements

STREET LIGHTING
  • We voiced concerns about the reductions of street lighting by Powys County Council, and in some cases have been successful in getting several lights switched back on.

PROBLEMS ADDRESSED OR SOLVED:

  • Speeding along Cambrian Way
  • Surface water, near Dinam Terrace, which caused problems in the winter  freezes and makes the road a large skating rink
  • All flat numbers of Mill Close Flats displayed at the end of each block, making it easier for people visiting to find their way. Eg doctors, nurses, carers and visitors
  • Setting up a Users' Committee of Mill Close Hall to organise the day to day running of the hall.
  • Successful in getting the council to attend to the gardens in Mill Close so there is now a lovely flower display every year. This makes it a pleasant place for the residents
  • We tackled the rundown state of Cae Cymric Green.  New railings were installed to replace the crumbling wall. There is also better seating and improved paths around the green
BROADBAND:

  • We have broad band set up in the hall and are in the process of getting a router installed SO everyone in the area (for a very small charge) can access the internet via broadband
OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION:
  • We have renovated, painted and decorated a bedroom in Mill Close so families visiting their kin can stay overnight
CHRISTMAS SOCIAL
  • Every November we hold a Christmas Social/Prize Giving, which is enjoyed by all.
